The SOTC Coat of Arms symbolizes the six pieces of armour mentioned in Ephesians 6:13-18 with the Cross of Christ symbolizing prayer at its center. Each symbol listed below represents a specific piece of armour and a corresponding Discipline. Both are displayed in italics.

This symbol of the Holy Spirit of truth serves as a reminder of the "spirit of power, of love, and of self-discipline" that is available to the born-again Christian. Through the development of Leadership Skills we strive no only to imitate Christ's example of leadership through servanthood, but also to "fan into flame" the gifts that He has given us.    Through acts of Christian Service we seek to build upon that Righteousness which is given to us through faith in Jesus Christ, for "he who does what is right, is righteous, just as He is righteous." See also Protecting Your Heart by E. E. Perry.

Community service is used as an opportunity to display a readiness to shine as lights in this world, as well as a means of demonstrating a readiness to carry the torch of the Gospel of Peace to all people. See The Story of the Torch by "Uncle Joe" Coughlin. See also Putting Your Best Foot Forward by E. E. Perry.

The climber was chosen to symbolize the Shield of Faith, as the number of spiritual anologies between rockclimbing/rappelling and faith can be quite extensive. Similarly, Outdoor Skills and activities are used as a whole to encourage the application of real-life events to spiritual principles and vice versa.    As the helmet is used to guard the head, so Bible Memory is used to guard the mind. Through an intimate knowledge of the scriptures we may put on the Helmet of the Hope of Salvation. See also Don't Lose Your Head by E. E. Perry.

The Sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God, is quick and powerful and sharper than any double-edged sword. Through Bible Reading we seek knowledge of the Word of God. See also Weilding the Sword by E. E. Perry.
